Wood is a natural material, and furniture made from real wood will always be unique. Every single piece of wood has its very own pattern. Grain patterns, small knots and shadows are a natural part of the wood, and should therefore not be considered as faults, defects or evidence of unsatisfactory quality under the Consumer Rights Act of 2015. Such naturally occurring characteristics such as grain patterns, small knots and shadows in wood or natural folding in leather will not be seen as a cause for a refund, replacement or repair. We communicate the expectation of natural variation in the 'Details' section for each of our wooden or leather products and therefore natural variation present cannot be grounds for the goods not being as described.

Wood is a living material that reacts to daily use. For example, normal exposure to daylight will gradually change the shade of the wood over time. However, we recommend that you do not place your furniture in direct sunlight. Whilst changes of appearance over time can occur due to atmospheric conditions such as moisture and/or altering temperatures such are not considered defects under the terms of the contract. You should also avoid putting placemats, vases or other objects in the same place for longer periods of time, as this will lead to discolouration, which can be hard to even out. Never place tealights, pans or other hot objects directly on the wood’s surface, as it can leave permanent stains. Always use a protective cover/mat. Wipe up any spillages immediately, as these can seep into the wood and leave permanent marks. Spillages can also cause the wood to rise.

Solid wood is very sensitive to moisture and light, and is easily affected by its surroundings. The wood absorbs and releases moisture, depending on the climate it is placed in. The air’s humidity content varies from season to season, and this too can affect the furniture. It is therefore perfectly normal for a tabletop to expand in summer, when air humidity is high, and then contract in winter, when the air humidity is lower. It is therefore perfectly natural that changes in air humidity can cause a solid wood tabletop to buckle and become slightly curved. You may also experience that the finger joints in the legs open slightly and contract again. We recommend placing the furniture in a room with a temperature of 18-21 degrees. The optimal air humidity is 45-55%. Solid wood furniture can become damaged from being stored in rooms with fluctuating humidity and temperatures. Never place the furniture close to heat sources, such as radiators or fireplaces, as the heat can cause the wood to dry out and split.

Exercising your right to change your mind if you are a consumer (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013).

If you are a consumer then for most online purchases you have a legal right to change your mind within 14 days and receive a refund. These rights, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.  When consumers do not have a right to change their minds. Your right as a consumer to change your mind does not apply in respect of:

  • the supply of goods that are made to the consumer's specifications or are clearly personalised;

We classify all our furniture sold as bespoke not standard for the following reasons. Each piece is handmade-to-order and often requested to be made in special oil finishes from our manufacturer such as traditional oiled, smoked oiled and black oiled finishes. Each piece is put into production as per the customer's individual specifications of wood, upholstery, oil finish, length and width. As an online business, all our customers order expecting new made-to-order furniture, thus there would be no resale value to us of a used second hand piece, with customer specific customisation and no original packaging and this would not fit with the definitions of standard product which could be resold again for the market value.
